Getting to CSOP

Location

CSOP is located on campus at Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in central Canada. Participants are required to arrange their own transportation to Winnipeg and to the University. 

The University is about a 20-minute drive from the Winnipeg international airport, the Winnipeg bus terminal and the Winnipeg train station. Canadian Mennonite University is a scent-, smoke-, alcohol- and drug-free campus.

Entry Into Canada

Please note, we will not be able to provide letters of invitation for visa applications at this time. All international applicants will need to provide proof of valid visitor status or student visa with their application for CSOP 2023. 

All international visitors coming to Canada to attend the CSOP will need to carry a valid passport. The Canadian government will require some of you to obtain a visa before you arrive in the country. Please start the process early; obtaining visas can take several months.  

International visitors who do not require a visa are required to have an electronic travel authorization (eTA) to enter Canada.  US citizens are exempt from this requirement.  For more information on the eTA, including how to apply and how to find out if you need and eTA, please go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta.asp

Weather

The average temperature in Winnipeg in June ranges from 10.7° to 23.3° Celsius (51° to 74° Fahrenheit). Average temperatures can be misleading, as some days in June are hotter than 30° Celsius. Summers are typically warm and often humid, with frequent night-time thunderstorms.

Campus Arrival and Departure

If you are arriving the morning of your class, go to the South side of campus (600 Shaftesbury Blvd) and follow the signs for registration and coffee. Registration is available from 8:00 – 8:45 am on the Monday of each week. The Opening Program is at 9:00 am in the Conference Room. 

If you are arriving prior to registration, you can find your housing at Concord Hall (2318 Grant Ave) or Poettcker Hall (2316 Grant). If you require additional assistance you can call CMU Campus Residence Hosts ((204) 228-3962). If you signed up and paid for housing, your room number will be e-mailed to you in advance of your arrival. 

Classes end at 4:00 PM on the last day of each session. Please note that it is a 20 minute cab ride to reach the Winnipeg International Airport and you will need to be there two hours in advance of your flight.
